Let us read Psalms 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Here David is saying he is walking through the valley of the shadow of death. Now I am not sure exactly what this means but it doesn’t sound too good. It doesn’t seem like a place that I would like to be. When I was a kid I used to go with my friends to haunted houses during Halloween. It was scary. People would be jumping out at me, yelling and screaming in horror. I can remember being very scared, anticipating the next surprise.
David said that when he walks through the valley of the shadow of death, (which sounds like walking through a haunted house to me) he will not fear. Let me tell you if you can walk through a haunted house and not get scared you are pretty good. David is basically saying he could do this and not get scared. How is this? How could someone walk through something horrifying but yet have no fear? Let’s look at the scripture again.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
David is able to walk through something horrifying, dreadful, and terrifying and yet have no fear, none! How can he do this? Because he knows that God is with him which makes all the difference in the world. The bible says if God be for me, who can be against me?! The bible says no weapon formed against you will prosper! The bible says that greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world!
Friend if you are going through your own valley of shadow of death, don’t be afraid because God is with you!
