My wife and I just got back from an Intercultural Enrichment Marriage Weekend. I am an American living in Finland married to a wonderful and beautiful Finnish woman. We have one 2 year old daughter and another one coming in two weeks. We went to the weekend not because we have a bad marriage but because we simply want to have an even better marriage than what we already have. We had a wonderful time and know that our marriage has been strengthened and blessed.

The Marriage Weekend began Thursday evening and ran through Sunday afternoon. The weekend consisted of lectures, bible devotions with some prayer, lots of good food, time for fun and fellowship, and the best in my opinion, group discussions.

The group discussions consisted of time in which 4 or 5 couples discussed different issues and struggles common with Intercultural couples. It was therapuetic for us to listen to others and share some of the complexities that most intercultural couples face. In the course of the discussions we all laughed, some cried, many released some pent up frustrations. We had a marriage counselor present in the discussions and she added much good advice. I as a minister added sometimes some neccessary biblical input.

We highly recommend this Marriage Weekend. If you live in Finland and are interested in this Marriage Weekend simply contact us and we can provide you with more information.

I would like to recommend some Marriage Ministries that are very good:

Marriage Today, www.marriagetoday.org. This ministry has been Heidi’s and mine main source for Marriage Education and encouragement. They have a weekly television show that you can watch online as well many books and tapes. Heidi and I have been partners for this ministry for over two years. We have enjoyed partnering with such a good ministry that is dedicated to helping and saving marriages.

Other ministries to check out also would be Family Life Today and Gary Smalley. Both very good marriage ministries.

On a final note I would like to say is this; I am more concerned about couples who are doing nothing to improve their marriage than couples who are making efforts to educate themselves and grow in marriage in ways such as: readubg books on marriage and parenting, attending marriage retreats, seminars, conferences, small groups, praying together etc.

God Bless and may your marriage prosper!
